Gilbert LaFrance, age 71 and a resident of Kiln, MS, passed away in New Orleans, LA, on Wednesday, September 21, 2022. 

Gilbert was born in Bay St Louis, MS, on September 14, 1951. After graduating from Bay High School in 1969, he met and later married the love of his life, Glenda Lester of Kiln, MS. They have been married for 49 years. 

The carpentry skills taught to him by his father Lester, would later lead to him building his family home and his successful business, LaFrance’s Remodeling and Repair. Gilbert was also a worked as a market manager for Winn Dixie for many years before returning to the Gulf Coast and opening his own store, LaFrance’s Meat Market. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester (Kaiser) and Annie Mae LaFontaine LaFrance; sisters, Ruby Duncan and Peggy Henley; brothers, LJ LaFrance, David LaFrance, and Delbert LaFrance; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Glorine and Horace Joe Moran; father-in-law Sanford Lester and his wife Geraldine Blankenship Lester. 

He is survived by his loving wife, Glenda LaFrance, Kiln; brother, Douglas LaFrance, Pearl River, LA; sister in law, Wanda Holliman, Kiln; daughters, Daphne Baxter (Kevon) of Kiln and Amanda Davidson (Rand) of Gonzales, LA; grandchildren, Sabrina Neitman (Taylor), Sarah Strempler (Russell), both of Kiln, Randy Davidson, Ryan Davidson, both of Gonzales, Zachary Baxter, Cameron Baxter, both of Kiln; great grandchildren, River, Dakota, William, Cora, and Autumn, all of Kiln; many nieces and nephews, as well as extended family and friends, who he loved dearly. 

Gilbert loved with his whole heart and his family was his entire world. If he loved you, you knew it and he would do anything within his power for you. He will be greatly missed by so many. 

We would like to say a special thank you to all who have reached out to us to express their condolences. A celebration of Gilbert’s life will be announced at a later date.
