John L. Dunning, Sr., was born September 6, 1969, to Dorothy Jean and Steve Dunning. In the early morning of January 1, 2024, God sent his angel to bring John home.

John was born in Gulfport, Mississippi. He graduated from Harrison Central High School in 1988. John worked various jobs: Pat Peck Nissan, McDonalds and All Phase Electric until he retired.

John will always be remembered for his big smile. 

John was preceded in death by his mother, Mrs. Dorothy Jean Dunning, sister, Darlene Boswell, two brothers, Steve Dunning, Jr and Jimmy Dunning.

He leaves to cherish his memories: his loving and devoted wife of 24 years Mary A. Dunning - Gulfport, MS (Oakland, CA); four sons - John C. Dunning, Jr., and Lawrence Gilkey both of Gulfport, MS; Johnny McDonald of North Carolina, and Jevonte Brown of Biloxi, MS; and six amazing grandchildren. He also leaves to cherish his memories his Dad - Steve (Patricia) Dunning of Gulfport, MS, his siblings - Ann Luckett, Biloxi, MS, Samuel Clark, Jr., Celestine Hollis, Marilyn Dunning, and Michael (Gina) Dunning all of Gulfport, MS, and Betty Jean Coleman, of Raymond, MS, his loving mother-in-law, whom he loved and cherished, Edna Williams, his best friends; Patrica Smart, Charles James, and Dexter Norwood, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
